Attention all moviegoers! A familiar movie theater is returning next week to the Marbach area, but it will look completely different. San Antonio-based Santikos Entertainment is opening the former Alamo Drafthouse Westlakes location on Thursday, March 31.
When Alamo Drafthouse closed its Westlakes establishment in April 2021 – one month after the chain filed for bankruptcy — Santikos Entertainment swooped in and acquired its second Alamo Drafthouse location. The first buy was the New Braunfels establishment, which opened in August.
The theater has updated recliner seats with a cooler for all nine theaters, two of the famous serve-your-own-popcorn stands (available at Mayan, Northwest, Galaxy, and soon to be at Embassy and Cibolo locations), and the express pick-up option.

Abigail Im“At Santikos Entertainment, we are excited about the opportunity to do more for our community by re-opening Westlakes,” Tim Handren, Santikos CEO, said. “The community is going to be blown away by the improvements. We’ve upgraded sound, projection and added a brand-new arcade featuring over 25 games. Then, if you want to catch the big game or get a cold one, movie lovers can check out the brand-new sports bar.”
The local chain expanded the Westlakes location, adding an additional 3,904 square feet to the 40,363-square-foot property to make it big enough for an arcade room and bar.
