Visual artist in Lansing to showcase ‘This is Me’ collection at ArtPrize

LANSING, Mich. — ArtPrize 2022 kicks off this Thursday in Grand Rapids. It’s an international artwork competitiveness that celebrates artists working in all mediums. Visible artist Christina Castilla of Lansing will be taking part in the competitors. She gave FOX 47 a sneak peek of the artwork she will be showcasing.

“She’s representing herself, her heritage. But the money town, like the capital of the state, is getting very well represented,” claimed Siso Dhladhla of Lanartbus and Castilla’s mate.

Castilla’s art is like no other.

“She works by using a new medium. She utilizes various tactics. She’s in no way performed. She has a literal electricity to her artwork. She, she’s a maker,” Dhladhla said.

The dazzling hues in her work represents her daily life, her lifestyle and Hispanic community.

“It’s a burst of expression for me,” Castilla stated.

When she found out she obtained approved as an ArtPrize artist she was thrilled.

“Very enthusiastic. To me, this is like, enormous, since I’m a next-technology American. So, I am going to be capable to display my standpoint of my art, my lifestyle and just be equipped to convey awareness to it,” Castilla claimed.

Her series she’s bringing to ArtPrize is called “This is Me”. It consists of four pieces with tales driving them.

“My standpoint, my memories, and my tradition, my household, really like for the Hispanic community and just the matters that we do like traditions and items that produced me content and proud,” Castilla stated.

Like the moments she used with her spouse and children and grandparents.

“I have a piece that represents a time that we would participate in a match together. It’s known as Loteria, wherever we would sit down all collectively as a family members. And this was a great time for us to discover Spanish as nicely,” Castilla said. “It’s like bingo. So just about every card would be a distinct Spanish phrase.”

The piece also has a sugar skull on it.

“Which is like, kind of like it’s like undying enjoy. For me, like my grandparents are always likely to be a section of that. We generally get to rejoice them and like residing out our life and residing out our desires is a celebration of them because that’s what they arrived listed here to do,” Castilla stated.

The mother of 3 hopes that pursuing her goals will aid her youngsters with their personal creativeness.

“Creativeness commences at the younger age because you decide who you want to be. And which is a component of creativity is developing who you want to be. And it is really supplying them self-confidence to know that like, oh, I can do that. Like this is already it is normal to them,” Castilla stated. “To be listed here and be ready to not only have my mother see my achievements, but I know my grandparents will be proud.”

The levels of competition finishes Oct. 2, and Castilla is hoping not only to snag a prize but also give back by her art.

“When I paint, I give back again to the group. I consider to get included with the local community with the youth. And so that is my objective when I go there, its to convey connections to carry recognition to what I do what my artwork feeds, and that is my goal,” Castilla mentioned. “So vote to convey artwork back again into our community. South facet, east side, west aspect, north aspect like that’s where by I’m making an attempt to go.”
